What to know when your new!
If you’re new to massage or Lymphatic drainage, you’ll want to know exactly what to expect on your first visit to Sweet Serenitys. Here we have broken it down for you, just so there are no surprises.
Timing : You will want to come 15 minutes prior to start time of your first treatment, this will give you enough time to fill out the health history form and discuss your insurance coverage. Currently we direct bill to Pacific blue Cross but will give you a RMT receipt to provide to your insurance company if you are covered by anyone else.
Getting ready: At this time you will meet your massage therapist and they will welcome you to the treatment room to discuss your health history form and medical concerns. At this time the therapist will also discuss assessment and a treatment plan with you. Once they leave you are welcome to disrobe to whatever you are most comfortable with. After this you will be expected to go under the top sheet and blanket, laying on the table.
Treatment time: You’ll stay under the fresh linens on the heated, padded massage table throughout the treatment. RMTs are trained to ensure the sheet on the massage table always drapes you and protects your privacy. Only the body part being worked on will be uncovered.
A lymphatic massage session will include hands on therapy in which the practitioner uses specialized and gentle rhythmic pumping techniques to move the skin following the structure of the lymphatic system so that accumulated lymph fluid can drain through proper channels of lymphatic flow. This stimulates the lymphatic vessels, which remove waste products from your tissues and carry substances vital to the immune system. Your RMT will ask you periodically how you are doing throughout the treatment. You should also feel free to communicate with your therapist about treatment
at any time, as well as about draping or any pain you might be feeling throughout the massage. You can expect complete quiet from your therapist or relaxing conversation if you prefer. There will be calming music played, unless you don’t want it.
Finishing up: Your RMT will let you know when the massage is complete and will leave the room while you get dressed. When you’re ready, open the door to signal to your RMT to come back. They’ll then provide you water or tea, self-care advice/follow up and your recommended treatment plan. Feel free to ask your therapist any questions you may have at this point. They’ll then escort you to reception to book your next visit.
